How and where to promote your website so you can start making money online
A lot of people make a website and then have NO idea how to promote their website. The thing is there are a lot of WAYS to promote a website but not all of them are worth it. You see, when you send traffic to a website you want it to convert. When I say you want it to convert this means that you want them to click on a ad, buy something from your site, Subscribe by opt in email list or RSS feed or to bookmark the page and come back later.
The real goal though is to get them to buy something or click on a ad but bookmarking or subscribing is also wanted so you can get them to possible come back and click on more ads or buy more stuff or if they never clicked on a ad or bought anything they might possibly by something later when they come back.
So let me just come out and say it, SOME TRAFFIC IS JUNK. That is right not all traffic converts and some of it may NEVER convert or would convert so poorly you would just lose money.
One of the WORST forms of traffic being sold on the internet is traffic from Paid to Click sites and Auto/Manual Surf sites.
The way these sites work is you sign up and view a page to get a page view to your own site or you view a site for some chump change, usually less than 1 cent for 30 seconds or longer. I have no idea why anyone even uses these sites as you get so little and it takes so much time.
The goal of the Paid to Click or Auto/Manual surf sites for the person using them is to either get paid or get the views and that is basically their ONLY goal. They do not care about clicking on your ads or sticking around on your site for any longer than the 30-1 minute minimum stay length.
So they might not even read your site but just sit there and wait for the timer to run down so they get their credit. Most likely they WILL NOT come back and NOT click ads.
The PTC sites sell this traffic in bulk for almost nothing. It sounds great to get 100,000 views to your site for 100 bucks. Trust me and skip this type of traffic altogether.
The next type of traffic people will promote with is Social Media or Social bookmarking traffic.

These two are mainly tech sites only.

These sites can send a lot of traffic that may or may not convert. These sites usually do not send really targeted traffic and so it may or may not convert well. Sites like Digg and Stumbleupon can send a LOT of traffic but from what I have seen it does not convert well. Some times if you have good content other blogs in your niche will pick it up and send GOOD traffic which will probably convert. You can get a flood of links because of social media traffic as blogs pick up and start talking about your site. One thing is for sure these sites can get the word out that you are out there and let people see your site.
If other sites do not pick up on your content usually the traffic is not worth too much. I have got a few ad clicks and one month out of 70,000 plus views I made little over 10 bucks with Adsense. Now I was using the traffic on a comedy type site. These type sites do not convert well in the first place.
I have not tested it on a site like this so it may be worth a try but many others agree that Social media and Social Bookmarking traffic does not convert well.
In some cases it is worth submitting your new posts and content to Social Media sites just for the extra links as some of the sites like say MIXX give you a “Do follow” direct link to your site. The Do follow sites can give you extra PR for your website.
Some of the best traffic is targeted traffic. This can come from buying links or banner space on related sites or from buying ads from Google Adwords or Yahoo’s Adsense competitor YPN.
With Adsense and YPN you will have to PAY for each and every click and it can really drain your wallet. You will set a daily spending limit and hope the traffic converts. It can be hard to use this type of traffic. You set the ads up and if the traffic is not targeted enough it will not convert. Like if you have a money site and think you can get traffic from bidding on laptop ads it may not convert but it will drain your wallet.
Clicks can cost A LOT of money. It will vary per niche that you are targeting but usually it is quit high. The thing is if it converts well you will make money, big money.
These are just SOME of the many ways to promote your website. I will cover more on this as I come across more that work.

If you want to make money online learn some HTML
If you are going to run websites and make money online you are going to have to learn to use HTML and maybe even other codes. Myself I know the basics and I do get by with help from friends I have met online.
Even to use a wordpress or blogger platform like I use you are going to have to know some basic HTML code unless you have money to pay others to do it for you. It is faster and cheaper to do it yourself and it can even be easier. If you hire someone else you are going to have to wait and work with the person to get what you want done. It can just be easier to do it yourself.
Learning basic HTML is not hard. It is not like learning another language but does require some practice and study to get it right.
You can learn basic to advanced HTML for free at W3Schools. So go to http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
To learn HTML now and you will be able to work on your own site easy.
This will help you edit posts and even edit your wordpress or blogger template to make it look or work like you want it to.

How to make money online with Stock photography sites. Sell your digital images and make money!
Did you know you can make money by selling images online? It is pretty cool really that you can do this with just images you take with your digital camera. Now your images have to be exposed properly and they have to be good quality. You also need a good camera. Get something with like 5.0 megapixels or more but the minimum on one site is 2.5 mega pixels or more.
One of the places you can sell your images is at Shutterstock. You get 25 cents a download until you reach 500.00 in total payouts and then you get 33 cents a download. Once you get 3000 bucks you will get 36 cents a download and once you get 10,000 bucks you will get 38 cents a download.
It may not sound like much but is can add up over time and the images will just be sitting on your computer doing nothing anyways.
Dreamstime offers you 50-80% for each time a picture of yours is sold.

These sites are Stock Photography sites and you can find a lot of them online. These are the most popular but others will also buy your images. I have heard of people making hundreds a month from Shutterstock alone so if you put a little work into this and publish your images on a few website you could possible make a full time living doing this.
I personally am just testing this myself and signed up just last week. I have not uploaded any images yet but I will give it a try and see how much I can make. They want good quality images so get a good camera and give it a try.

Affiliate programs/networks and ads you are going to need to monetize your site to make money online
So in this post I am going to cover a few means of monetizing your site or just making money online in general.
If you want to make money online you are going to need affiliate programs and ads of some sort to make money. You can make money by other means also like with link sales and private ad sales. You can read more on that in this post:http://www.yeastmoney.com/?p=49
You are going to want to sign up to a lot of affiliate programs and networks so you will have a bunch of ads available to you and your sites topic.
These are the best out there and you probably will not need to sign up for any more than these. Sign up for all of these so you will have enough ads for your website.

These are networks(except Kontera they just supply ads like adsense) that connect to individual affiliate programs through websites. This way you can easily manage all your earnings and links through one site.
Next up you will want to sign up for Google Adsense and maybe some other ones like it. Adsense usually does a lot better overall but on some sites Yahoo’s ads can do better.

With these ad networks you can make money with your website online. These are the best out there and a lot of people use them. You do not want to stick to just one. I think all of these can be used together except the yahoo and google adsense ones.
I really like Kontera and Adsense. I use them on this site along with Affiliate ads from Commission Junction. I will soon start to add some ads from Neverblue if I find any that fits my sites topic.
One thing to do is to go around to competing sites and to see what ads they use. Then sign up for them and use them yourself.

Make money with your site by selling link and ad space
A lot of people do not know just how profitable selling links and banner space on their site can be. Some of the worlds top bloggers/webmasters who get millions of views each month make $14,000 bucks or more a month just on ad spots and link sales on their blogs and websites.
By default a wordpress blog and all templates have a spot called the blog roll. You can add links to this blogroll and the links will appear on ALL posts on your blog. On a website you can add links on the sidebar or header also and they will appear on every page.
People will pay for these links and according to how much traffic your site gets some people will pay A LOT of money for just one link on your site.
Usually webmasters will sell links on their site by the week and by the month. I have never seen anyone do it by the day that I can think of. It would just be a big pain to have to switch out a bunch of links each day so most charge by the week or the month.
If you get a lot of traffic sometimes interested parties who want to buy a link or a banner space will contact you. A lot of webmasters like myself have a page that says “Advertise on this website or blog”
where you can get contact info and or pricing for ad spots and link spots on the websites.

How you can improve your website and be on the way to making money online
So you work hard on your website and you just don’t seem to be getting anywhere. I have heard this said over and over that usually when you quit you are just about to get out of the hard part and start to succeed. So do not quit unless you know for sure that your niche is dead or that you are just not capable of making money in that particular niche.
The first thing you will want to do is to check and see if it is something you are doing wrong. You need to see if you can improve your website to bring in more conversions, improve your writing or whatever, you just need to find out what is preventing you from doing great.

How to get paid to write articles for people online
Okay so you may have read my other posts on how to make money by writing articles for Associated Content. Associated content is great for when you are just starting out writing. If you use the tips I gave in my article on how to increase your Associated Content upfront earnings then you may actually get good money for your articles.
If you are going to keep writing there is no reason to keep writing for even 6 bucks per 500 words. If you are a good writer then you can get a lot more than that elsewhere. I know of one person who gets 200 bucks per 500 word article.
